Micro Braid Hairstyles

What are micro braid hairstyles?

Micro braids are smaller then traditional braids and are done by taking a minute piece of hair and adding it with hair braiding weave and then braiding it. Micro braids have become very popular but while most people think that it is a low maintenance hairstyle, I consider this a high maintenance style.

Micro braids require care before, after, and during the braiding process to ensure the best result. Because of the very small nature of the braids hair can easily be damage and even fall out.

Things to watch out for.

BEFORE

  • Care for your hair before micro braid insertion. Make sure that your hair is in great condition.

  • Wait at least 2 weeks after a fresh relaxer before micro braids.

  • Moisturize and deep condition your hair before getting it braided.

DURING

  • # 1 (Very important!) Make sure the braids aren't getting braided to tight.

  • If you feel pain during the procedure don't dismiss them thinking that it will pass later. Ask the braider to loosen them enough until you feel comfortable.

  • Don't get them braided too small. Smaller braids take longer to remove and in general causes more damage. If you decide to go real small make sure the ratio of hair to the size of hair to be braided fits. To much hair can weight down your hair and tug on it, causing it to fall out.

DAILY MAINTENANCE - For Micro Braid Hairstyles.

  • Moisturize your hair daily with a good braid spray such as African Royale spray.

  • You can make your own homemade moisturizer with a combination of water, evoo and a leave-in conditioner.

  • Wash your hair at least once a week and use a conditioner every time.

AFTER

  • Be very gentle when taking out braids. Hair is very fragile during this process.

  • After removing braids, follow up with a protein treatment to help strengthen the hair.

  • Deep Condition and moisturize hair to restore moisture balance.

Already Thin Hair?

If you already have a thine hair line or very fragile damaged hair I would be cautious about getting micro braids. Nourish your hair back to health before considering micro's.

White bumps on scalp= TROUBLE!

If you see white bumps on your scalp it may be the aftermath of hair falling out from the roots. White bumps and braids falling out indicate hair loss. Immediately use Better Braids Un-Braid spray and REMOVE the braids before further damage is done.

Micro braids should not be kept longer then 2 months at a time 3 months maxim for those that maintain strict hair care.
