Black hair is by nature dry. Due to the coils and kinks when oil is exited out of out hair follicle it often times doesn’t reach the ends. People with straight hair normally do not have the problem because oil is able to travel straight down the hair shaft without any resistance.

Moisturizing the hair is especially important to black hair because without it hair will end up dry, brittle and break of. You will not be able to retain ends and without retaining end hair can not get longer

When is the proper time to moisturize?

It is important to moisturize preferably every time your hair gets wet, whether you shampoo or not. Moisturizing treatments are your most common conditioners. Most of the products are was moisturizers are labeled deep conditioners. All hair types need moisture, except for maybe the very oily. If your hair is extremely damage you must start with protein treatments to help reverse some of the damage. If your hair is spongy and severely damaged using only a moisturizing will only make it worse. It this point your hair is weak and brittle and strengthen them should be your main concern.

How often?

Use a regular light wash out conditioner every time you shampoo. Make sure to rinse well in cool water. Deep conditioning with at least 10 of heat under a dryer can be done once a week or once a month, or even more often for more damaged hair.
